The people of Sunderland and Stoke have sent a strong message to the Labour Party by causing many councillors to lose their seats. The pro-Brexit silent majority are losing faith in the pro-Remain establishment.
The Sunderland Echo revealed that 70% of their readers support a No Deal Brexit. Unsurprisingly, the Labour MP’s are supposedly represent the people in the area are calling for another referendum on our membership of the European Union.
The Labour Leader of Council in Sunderland, Graeme Miller, gave his perspective on the result: “Sunderland voted as a city to Leave in June 2016 and having had a Labour message across the city from Members of Parliament saying that we’re having a people’s vote and a second referendum.
“People in Sunderland have said ‘we’re just not accepting that from the Labour Party’. We’ve lost 10 Councillors tonight because of that Brexit situation.”
Self-proclaimed ‘anti-fascist’ Labour MP for Stoke-on-Trent North & Kidsgrove, Ruth Smeeth, also claimed: “my constituents just don’t believe that we’ll deliver Brexit. I represent a seat that is 73% Leave, and what is quite clear, especially if you look at the spoilt ballot papers, this evening is that it was we don’t trust you! UKIP, UKIP UKIP!”
