Two men, one Iranian and one British have been arrested on the suspicion of “illegal movement of migrants” over the English Channel and into the United Kingdom.

Reportedly there has been estimated to have been more than 230 illegal immigrants cross the Channel into the United Kingdom since the start of November.

The 24-year-old Briton and 33 year-old Iranian were arrested in Manchester by the National Crime Agency.

A National Crime Agency spokesman stated: “NCA officers have tonight arrested a 33-year-old Iranian national and a 24-year-old British man in Manchester on suspicion of arranging the illegal movement of migrants … As the investigation is ongoing we are unable to comment further at this time.”

Home Secretary, Sajid Javid even seemed to suggest he was questioning whether or not the so-called refugees crossing the English Channel are “genuine”, he said: “A question has to be asked: if you are a genuine asylum seeker why have you not sought asylum in the first safe country that you arrived in?

“Because France is not a country where anyone would argue it is not safe in anyway whatsoever, and if you are genuine then why not seek asylum in your first safe country?”

These unprecedented numbers of economic migrants crossing the English Channel are doing so illegally, an asylum seeker is only allowed to claim asylum in the first safe country they enter. In, order to reach Calais these illegal immigrants have passed through at least two safe nations and in most cases many more. None of these Channel migrants can legally qualify for UK asylum.
