Panic is starting to set it as rising numbers illegal migrants are seemingly crossing the channel with little or no resistance, the government is giving the world the impression we are a ‘soft-touch’ and an official from the Home Office is recommending the economic migrants are handed back to the French authorities.
Reportedly 40 illegal migrants were found on five boats on Christmas Day, all of seemed to be welcomed with open arms. Nine illegal immigrants were discovered on a beach in Folkestone, Kent yesterday, as well as another in Dover. The mind boggles whether the Home Office has deported them or chosen to offer them asylum instead.
A former Home Office chief, David Wood spoke to The Telegraph, and said: “Britain’s border force, coastguards and lifeboats are being used as a taxi service for the migrants.
“As far as organised crime is concerned, it’s de-risked their business. They know they don’t have to get right across the Channel and land, they can get half way across and the migrants will be taken the rest of the way.
“We have to stop this or it will grow and grow. It will escalate. The answer is to return them to France as soon as they are picked up.
“If we did that straight away, they would realise that paying £5,000 to the people smugglers would achieve nothing and they would just be taken back to France.”
This straight-talking common-sense style of talking in regards to the migration crisis threatening the English Channel has been echoed by other Conservative MPs. Tory MP Tim Loughton claimed: “We appear to be giving the impression of being a soft touch again.”
Charlie Elphicke the MP representing Dover, had warned the public about this before and claimed that: “It’s time for action from the Home Office. That means deploying more cutters and coastal patrol vessels as a deterrent.”
The British government must act swiftly, we need to increase the numbers of border staff, we must build a large fleet of cutters to safeguard our shores from the illegal transportation of drugs/firearms, human traffickers and illegal migration.
